Hi, I'm Solaine! The gal who fell in love with hormones and women's health!
Metformin is very commonly used as a standard prescription in PCOS, it’s also fairly well known that it can come with some *inconvenient* symptoms like loose bowel movements, nausea and fatigue. A seemingly small price to pay when you’re desperate to lose weight and control your hangries.
What I want you to know is that Metformin does come with the potential of other side effects which are more serious and less commonly talked about. The longer you use it, the higher the dose, the more likely you will be feeling the effects of some of these side effects.
Mitochondrial damage
B12 deficiency
Microbiome changes
No one seems to be talking about these?
Using Metformin as a standalone intervention for PCOS is doing you a disservice. Not only due to the side effects, but due to the fact that it completely ignores the effects of not changing your diet and lifestyle to reduce your insulin. The potential long term consequences including type II diabetes
Instead of Metformin, here’s what I recommend instead [tune into the episode to find out].
